Dietary supplement Libimax recalled
April 30th, 2009 joshua
The manufacturer of the dietary supplement Libimax has issued a voluntary recall on the product because it has an undeclared drug, and is therefore unapproved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA informed Nature & Health Co., the manufacturer of Libimax, that the dietary supplement contains the drug tadalafil, an active ingredient in a leading erectile dysfunction prescription.
Tadalafil is known to interact with nitrates in other prescription drugs and could result in a dangerous lowering of blood pressure.
This is the latest in a growing list of dietary supplements which have been found to include prescription drugs and their active ingredients. These ingredients are not appearing on product labels, however, a direct violation of FDA regulations.
The recalled Libimax is sold as a 1 capsule individual pack or 10-capsule and 20-capsule plastic bottles in retail stores in California, Georgia, Illinois, Texas, and Ohio.
Consumers are instructed to stop taking Libimax and to contact a doctor if they’ve experienced any troubles while taking the supplement.
Health & Nature Co. reports that no illnesses have been linked to this error.
