U.S. Marshals seize drugs at Caraco facilities

U.S. Marshals raided three drug manufacturing facilities owned by Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories Ltd. today, putting an end to the company’s non-compliant practices.
Caraco operated facilities in Detroit, Farmington Hills and Wixom, Mich. The raid gathered all drugs and ingredients stored at the facilities.
According to a release from the Food and Drug Administration, which initiated the raid, Caraco was a repeat offender of the current Good Manufacturing Practice.
In January, Caraco was forced to recall many of its products for repeated offenses and its failure to comply with cGMP.
Because Caraco is prevented from producing more drugs until it can learn to comply with the most basic standards of drug manufacturing, there may be a shortage of a pain reliever, choline magnesium trisalicylate oral tablets. The FDA recommends people using this drug to treat pain find a safe and effective alternative.
The FDA recently inspected Caraco facilities in May and found they still didn’t comply with regulatory standards.
