Phenobarbital Recalled in Canada Due to Overdose Risk

Filed June 29th, 2009 meg

Montreal, Quebec-based Pharmascience Inc. has initiated a recall of 60mg phenobarbital tablets in Canada.

Oversized tablets have been found, containing more phenobarbital than the label indicates, exposing patients to the risk of accidental overdose.

Phenobarbital is widely used as an anticonvulsant for the treatment of seizure disorders, and it is also used to treat anxiety and sleep related disorders as it has sedative and hypnotic properties.

To date, no adverse reactions have been reported.
