Denmark case shows swine flu resistant to Tamiflu

Filed June 30th, 2009 joshua

A patient in Denmark taking Tamiflu to prevent contracting swine flu got the still mysterious virus.

According to an Associated Press report, the patient has since recovered from swine flu, aka H1N1 virus.

The virus has not spread to anyone else from that specific patient, so health officials do not believe it to be the specific strain of swine flu which has already proven resistant to the most popular treatment for it, Tamiflu.

It also does not appear the strain of swine flu in question was a mutation of the famed pandemic virus and of a seasonal flu virus. Officials believe this could further dampen efforts to ward off swine flu in patients.

At least 28,000 people have contracted some form of swine flu in the U.S. Of those, more than 3,000 people have been hospitalized and 127 deaths have been attributed to swine flu.
